Mixed-media and Personification

Tranquility travels on translucent wings, haphazardly hitching rides on barely whispered breezes.  She is quite shy and unwilling to draw attention to herself. She doesn’t need to be seen, only to see.  Tranquility hides in plain sight; blending into the petals of a rose or shape shifting into the notes of an awakening wren. Brain child of the five senses, Tranquility is blessed with binocular vision and ultrasonic hearing. She spends all of her time noticing the tiny details in a day. She doesn’t showboat. She is not a seeker of fame or fortune. She exists in a constant state of awe.
Roadblocks and dead ends do not discourage Tranquility in the least. She is perfectly happy to sit in traffic and examine the way the sun glints off the roof of a building.  She’ll cheerfully let you take that last parking space so she can hold on to the image of a lavender hued wisp of cloud in her rear view mirror. Tranquility has been known to sit for days listening to the symphonies of ocean waves. She holds the World Record for inhaling the aroma of pine needles. She doesn’t know this of course. And she couldn’t care less.
Arrogance and Ambition do not care much for Tranquility. They’d prefer that she get onboard or get out of the way. They mistake her slow movements and quiet nature as weakness. Tranquility just shrugs when Ambition honks his horn while passing her on the freeway. She leisurely thumbs through magazines while Arrogance yells at the store clerk and demands a refund. She says a silent prayer for them as they carry on. Not one to worry, Tranquility does hope that Ambition makes it home safely, and that Arrogance has the good fortune to meet her best friend Humility for tea one afternoon.
Tranquility comes and goes as she pleases. Don’t bother trying to set up an appointment with her or get her to meet you to go over paperwork. She is not one to make plans.  There are just too many cloud formations to invent names for and blends of shape and color to catalogue. You’ll never find Tranquility on a cell phone or putting make-up on in her car. She abhors fast food and multi-tasking. If you ask Tranquility to pick up the pace, she’ll slow down quite deliberately. She’s stubborn that way. If you want to hang out with her over the weekend, make sure you set aside plenty of time for lolling, ambling, dallying, and frittering.
