Mixed-media and Personification

Mixed-media and Personification

Empathy specializes in roots. Her small apothecary shop is located underneath a used book store and can only be accessed from the back alley by way of a steep corkscrew of stairs. It is not easy to find, but once stumbled upon, it provides safe haven on cruel days. Empathy will apply balms and bandages to your cuts and bruises before offering you one of her homemade teas. Then, she’ll allow you to study the gullies of wisdom that line her face until you understand.
Every morning, Empathy cries into pots and pans until she is as parched as the bones of ginseng, marshmallow, black cohosh, and burdock that fill her cupboards. She hangs the pots and pans over glowing coals and adds slices of ginger, licorice shavings, and dashes of dandelion. As the teas bubble, Empathy recites poetry aloud to stimulate the roots’ curative properties. Her brews soothe the ancient cruelties that stain humanity’s weary soul.
Empathy sees with the memory of a child. Her diaphanous fingers are permanently stained with the bittersweet aromas of her trade, and her straight blue hair runs like a river past her ankles and onto the floor where it ripples behind her as she walks. The rest of her is barely more than an apparition; a rising mist draped in translucent veils. In spite of the fact that she works underground, Empathy always grows the most radiant and resilient of flowers. She tends to new life with the gentleness of a whisper and weeds out the lies that threaten to curl its tentative petals.

Is that your own art, Erin?!?! It’s really nice!!

The recent Memories of us Old-uns is very short, so you have to keep reminding us that your blog is on life-support.

Thanks for visiting. Yes, this is all my own art and writing. I appreciate the CPR. I’ve turned the kitchen table area into a cut and paste workshop. Clara works there too. She’s done a few pieces of her own.
